We started December on the 4th with a home tie in the Hampshire County Cup against Co-Op Dragons who play in the Portsmouth Dockyard League. The game started pretty even but our goal was never threatened, however it took until the 33rd minute before we got our first goal Steve Wellham took the ball past about three Co-Op players and shot at goal only to see the ball rebound off the post but Duane Ellis was in the right place to pick up the loose ball and slot it into the net. Within two minutes Steve was on the run again this time he laid it off to Terry Stewart to score our second, we were now in total control, half time arrived 2-0 up. It only took 6 minutes into the second half for Shane Farrier to get on the score sheet after he got on the end of a superb Rhys Wellham free kick. Terry then got his second on 68 minutes making it 4-0 and we were coasting. All was well until the 89th minute when they got given a free kick from which they scored directly just nicking the inside of the post. Disappointed in giving away the goal but all in all a good win which now puts us into the last 16 teams of the Hampshire Cup.
Sunday 11th saw us back in league action against Watersedge Park and with the way the league is looking goals will be important. So as the first half started it only took 4 minutes before Jason Stafford played a through ball to Duane Ellis who crossed the ball for Steve Wellham to slot home so 4 minutes gone 1-0 up things were looking good. Although we kept up constant preesure on them it took until the 38th minute until Duane Ellis scored from a Shane Farrier corner. Half time and despite our pressure we could only come in 2-0 up. Second half two changes were made one of which was to bring on new signing Mitch Austin who instantly made a difference in midfield and after a minute great interplay between Mitch Austin and Steve Wellham saw a ball floated in for Duane Ellis to head home his second, 3 minutes later it was time for Mitch to get his debut goal. After constant pressure on 54 minutes Mitch found himself on the left apex of the 18 yard box he decided to have a go and sent the ball into the top right of the goal so three goals in the first 9 minutes of the second half saw us 5-0 up. On 65 minutes we won a corner on the right which Shane Farrier took again and floated a great ball over for Shaun Newton to head home. After much hard work it was Shane Farrier’s turn to get on the score sheet on 72 minutes. Five minutes later Watersedge played a bad back pass which was pounced on by John Butler who laid it off for Duane to compleat his hatrick. By this time I was thinking we could win this game and on 80 minutes Steve Wellham scored his second and 3 minutes later after a great through ball from the half way line from Jason Stafford saw Steve through to complete his hatrick. Then with 4 minutes remaining we were awarded a penalty which the lads gave to Mitch so that he could get his debut hatrick . After only being two goals up at half time the game finished 11-0. This is our last game of 2011, we are all very pleased with the way our first season has started and let’s hope we can carry on the same way. Our next game will be Sunday 8th Jan in the Hampshire Cup.
